Karachi Port

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) is a Pakistan federal government agency that oversees the

operations of Karachi Port at Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. The Karachi Port is administered by a

Board of Trustees, comprising Chairman and 10 Trustees. The Chairman is appointed by the

Federal Government and is also the Chief Executive of Karachi Port Trust. The remaining 10

Trustees are equally distributed between the public and the private sector. The five public sector

Trustees are nominated by the Federal Government. The seats for private sector Trustees are

filled by elected representatives of various private sector organizations. This way all port users

find a representation in the Board of Trustees.

Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT), located at the Port of Karachi, is Pakistan’s

leading container terminal with modern container-handling equipment.

Pakistan International Container Terminal (PICT) In June 2002, Premier Mercantile Services

(Pvt.) Ltd. (“PMS”), as Sponsors of the Project, entered into an  Implementation Agreement

(“IA”) with Karachi Port Trust (“KPT”) to design, construct, operate and transfer after 21 years a

modern Container Terminal Project at berths 6-9, East Wharf, Karachi Port.

Port Mohammad Bin Qasim In the 1970s and early 1980s Pakistan set up an integrated iron and steel

mill at Pipri, near Karachi, with the financial and technical assistance of the Soviet Union. A new port,

Port Qasim (officially Port Muhammad Bin Qasim), was built to bring iron ore and coal for the mill.

Qasim International Container Terminal (QICT) is Pakistan's first Dedicated and Most Modern

International Container Terminal built at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim on a Build/Own/Operate (B.O.O.)

basis. QICT is situated at berths 5,6 and 7 at Port Muhammad Bin Qasim. The total area of the terminal

is 240,000 sq. meters surrounded by fast developing industrial estates
